The first trailer for the PTO’s Beyond Human documentary is here, which follows three triathlon stars in the lead-up to the Collins Cup.
Focusing on one athlete from each of the Collins Cup’s team regions, Beyond Human gives us the chance to get up close with Canadian superstar Lionel Sanders (currently ranked Internationals #1), 2014 Kona winner – Germany’s Sebastian Kienle (currently ranked Europe #3) and pocket powerhouse Heather Jackson (currently ranked USA #7).

If you’re not familiar with the Collins Cup, it’s a totally new and unique new flagship triathlon race from the Professional Triathletes Organisation, based loosely around golf’s Ryder Cup.
Three teams of athletes from the USA, Europe and Internationals – made up of six women and six men each – will go head-to-head-to-head over 12 matchup races starting 10 minutes apart. Team points will be awarded based on placings with bonuses for bigger time gaps.
The athletes will be supported by their team captains – triathlon legends, all – over race radio. Team USA can rely on the experience of Karen Smyers and Mark Allen. Team Europe athletes will have Chrissie Wellington and Normann Stadler in their corner. Finally, Team Internationals has a surplus of expertise thanks to Erin Baker, Craig Alexander, Simon Whitfield and Lisa Bentley.
As well as triathlon’s biggest prize purse – a whopping $1.5m – the teams will be racing to become custodians of the Collins Cup trophy for the year and all the prestige that goes along with it. Meanwhile, all the teams will be looking to avoid coming last and being presented with the Broken Spokes trophy – a year-long reminder of their performance!
