Here’s how to watch the Zwift Tri Battle Royale and see Jan Frodeno and Lionel Sanders go head-to-head from 8:15am CET on Sunday 18 July.
This weekend’s Zwift Tri Battle Royale is a unique one-on-one matchup between two of triathlon’s biggest stars, Jan Frodeno and Lionel Sanders, who will be racing in real life over the iron distance in Allgau, Germany.
The whole event will be broadcast live, giving fans the chance to watch these two monster athletes throughout the race. There’s also the opportunity to ride and run alongside the pair’s avatars in Zwift and get involved with the PTO’s new Fantasy Triathlon game.
Where Can I Watch Zwift Tri Battle Royale?
The Zwift Tri Battle Royale livestream begins at 8:15am CET with a pre-race show. The race itself will get underway at 8:40am. The stream will be available through tri-battle.com, Lionel Sanders’ YouTube channel and a “host of international TV networks”, which are TBC as of Friday morning.
The show will be presented by Paul Kaye, Helle Frederiksen and Melek Balgün.
Many an Ironman and Ironman 70.3 competitor will recognise Kaye’s voice as the lead race announcer for Ironman Europe. As passionate as he is motivational and knowledgeable, he’s a huge plus for the coverage.
Retired pro Helle Frederiksen is a former Olympian, multiple Ironman 70.3 champion and Challenge The Championship winner. A truly talented athlete, Frederiksen went 3:55 in Challenge Bahrain 2014, a middle-distance world record that still stands today.
Melek Balgün hails from the international esports scene and has received several awards for her moderation. She will bring her gaming and data skills to the live broadcast, and act as the perfect complement to the triathlon know-how of Kaye and Frederiksen.
Get Involved With Tri Battle Royale on Zwift
As well as watching the live broadcast, you can join Frodeno and Sanders on Zwift before, during and after the event.
On Friday 16 July there’s a final workout on Zwift and press conference at 11am CET.
On race-day itself, you can take part throughout the day from around 9:55am CET on Zwift. In a first for Zwift, the athletes’ live data will be mirrored by their avatars in Zwift, giving Zwifters around the world the chance to ride and run virtually alongside Jan and Sanders throughout the event – or as long as you can hold onto their savage pace!
- Here’s how it works:
- Follow both Jan and Lionel on the Zwift Companion app.
- Log in to your account.
- Choose Watopia and look for the option to ‘Ride with Jan Frodeno’ or ‘Ride with Lionel Sanders’.
- They will be riding and running on the Tick Tock route. Be warned, though, they will be moving at pace so get ready for a hard effort to stay on their wheel or by their side on the run.
- They will be on their bikes and riding (in Zwift) from around 09:55am CET, following the swim. Expect them to hit the run course at approximately 14:15pm CET.
PTO Triathlon Fantasy Game
You can also have some fun with the new PTO Triathlon Fantasy game, where you can predict Jan and Lionel’s splits and see how your educated guesses compare to other triathlon superfans.
All players start with 5,000 points. Once you’ve made your predictions for Frodeno and Sanders’ swim, bike and run splits, it’s just a case of waiting to see how fast the athletes go. Then, the difference in seconds from your guesses to the actual race time will be deducted to give you your overall points.
The more of your starting points that remain at the end of the day, the higher you’ll be on the rankings.
